How to create an immersive museum experience

Immersion plays the key role in the experience economy. Creating an immersive experience for visitors should be the main goal of museums as well. In this blog post we present an example of how such an experience can be created.

The Royal Museums Greenwich collaborated with Punchdrunk (a company focused on creating unforgettable theatre experiences of the future) to innovate the museum experience and make it immersive for their visitors. The result was a family adventure experience called Against Capitan’s Orders that ran from 28 March to 31 August 2015. The adventure took the visitors on an epic storytelling experience inside a unique sensory theatrical world. On the journey families could learn historical facts by having fun and being immersed in the experience. Have a look at the video to learn more about how the experience was developed, staged and perceived.
